Monkey Island 4?
Despite claims that the adventure game is dead, look for LucasArts to unveil Monkey Island 4 at E3 this year in Los Angeles.  First hinted at in e-mail to the press a few weeks ago, LucasArts has yet to confirm the game's existence, but the screenshot in the press invitation unmistakably depicts a 3D version of the famous Governor's mansion from the first two games.  I've long been a fan of the Monkey Island series – I remember writing a fan letter to series creator Ron Gilbert back in 1992 – and it's exciting news that LucasArts is willing to continue with the series amid so much pessimism about the adventure game genre.

More importantly, I hope LucasArts' devotion to Monkey Island will make other developers realize that there is something to be said for keeping legendary game series alive – Especially those as rich as Monkey Island.  Although Sierra On-Line has moved far away from its adventure game roots, I still think a great Space Quest or King's Quest game could be made by a new development team willing to take those worlds and cast them in a completely new light with a new gameplay mechanic, similar to what Hasbro is doing with X-Com: Alliance.  Now my only question is this: When are we going to see Maniac Mansion 3?

Next, find out about the Diablo II beta>>>
