Sega.com Launched
Over the past few weeks Sega has begun to roll out their plans for the rest of the year in preparation for E3.  The first big announcement came a few weeks ago with the launch of Sega.com, the company's online gaming portal set for launch later this year.  It appears as if online gaming is going to become a big part of Sega's strategy for the rest of the year.  While I think it's a smart move (especially if Sony doesn't announce a PS2 modem at E3), I still question whether Sega is going to be able to make games like Half-Life and Quake 3 Arena fully playable over a 56K modem.  I've yet to see any evidence that this is going to work, and having seen the choppy performance of the above-mentioned games over 56K on a PC, I remain very skeptical these games will work smoothly over Sega.com.

Sega also made a smart move last week in promoting Senior VP Peter Moore to the post of President.  An affable gent who used to market for Reebok, Moore has really been in charge on Sega since E3 time last year, just before former President Bernie Stolar exited the company.   I am looking forward to seeing what Sega has up its sleeves for E3 this year.  If they can actually demonstrate a game like Half-Life working well over a 56K modem, I think the Dreamcast has a healthy future ahead for the rest of the year.
