Bond Racing?
Here’s the best rumor I’ve heard in a long time: Electronic Arts is currently in production on a James Bond racing game.  Ok, but it gets even better: the game is going to use the Need for Speed engine.  Can you imagine what it would be like to race in the French Alps in a BMW Z8 as Bond, using his cool gadgets in your car to fight off hordes of enemies, hopefully both in the air and on land?  I’m sold just on the idea, especially if it’s going to use the Need for Speed engine.

The James Bond franchise has been largely untouched since Nintendo’s Goldeneye, and after acquiring the license, EA promised an impressive slate of products based on the Bond name.  First was the PlayStation game Tomorrow Never Dies which really didn’t register with gamers.  The only game officially in development is The World is Not Enough, a first person shooter that was displayed at E3 this year.  While EA is sticking to a 2000 release date for this game, based on what was on display at E3, it seems like more of a mid-2001 project at the earliest.

Still, to team Bond up with the Quake 3 and now the Need for Speed engine – if true -- is certainly a smart move on the part of EA.  We will keep you posted if this racing game actually does turn into fact…we hope it does.
