Lack of Incite Magazine
If you have become accustomed to receiving Incite magazine in your mailbox, don’t look for the next issue anytime soon.  Two weeks ago, Incite publisher Computec Media pulled the plug on both the PC and Videogame Incite after less than a year of publication.  While we’ve seen a number of PC gaming magazines change and even disappear over time, the ephemeral run of Incite is definitely an industry record.

And it’s too bad.  Incite had a lot going for it, with my favorite features being the magazine’s two-page-spread screenshots of games like Halo and KISS: Psycho Circus – the best ad a game could ever ask for – and the accompanying CD, neatly tucked into a pouch on the front cover.  While every other game magazine was content just throwing the same 10 demos on a CD, Incite pushed further by including a number of video features that took gamers inside developers such as Ion Storm, Bioware, and Sierra.  The inclusion of these video features made me eager to check out the CD each month.

While I’m sad to see Incite go, I hope other print magazines will take a hint from Incite’s legacy and push for more innovative content on the cover CD.  While Incite might have failed, there were good ideas in the magazine that should not be forgotten.  (Especially that advertising review idea…I wonder where they got that?)
