How about Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2, have you had a chance to play that yet?

Mike: That is one of, if not the best, video games I've ever played. The first one was rad, but it was a little limited; Tony Hawk 2 lets you do all of the tricks you wanted to do in the first one but couldn’t. I also really liked how there were hidden spots in each level. I will say that I liked the soundtrack to the first one better, but that’s a minor detail.

Sounds like you’ve played it a lot. So which have you gotten injured at more, the video game or the real thing?

Yuri: Skateboarding.

Mike: Skateboarding.

Tom: Yeah, skateboarding. One time, we tied my friend’s board to the back of his bike, and he was pulling me around. Then I was standing on it, talking to this other guy, and as a joke my friend jerked the rope, and I fell down and broke one of my front teeth in half. And I couldn’t get in to see the dentist for, oh man, it must’ve been like four days.

Mike: That’s another bonus about video games, you don’t get hurt. Well, unless you hurt your thumb.

Do you think you’ve learned anything about skateboarding from playing Tony Hawk?

Mike: I think you learn what the tricks are called.

Tom: Yeah, now when people talk about tricks, I actually know what they’re talking about.

So do you think skateboarding will ever be accepted as a sport, or will people who ride always be hassled by The Man?

Tom: I think there will always be some hassling of kids who are hanging out and skating.

But don’t you think since The Man has been around since the ’60s, that he’s got to be too old to be chasing skateboarders out of parks and stuff?

Tom: No, there’s always going to be The Man.

MxPx’s new album is called The Ever Passing Moment.
