q.gif (936 bytes) What was the most attractive thing about partnering with g.o.d.? Similarly, contrast this with your biggest fear about the g.o.d. concept.

a.gif (923 bytes) The most attractive thing is the chance to control and own what we create. Developing a video game is an expensive business, often costing millions of dollars. The facts of life say that kind of money always comes with strings attached, which is a shame, because as developers, we know better than anyone else how to develop a game. We can do a better job, faster, without having to fight an uphill battle to convince the publisher why our game will be cool. The difference with g.o.d. is that developers will be pulling the strings. There are some people who say that won’t work, but you have to ask, "What won’t it do?" If you accept that all of g.o.d.’s developers know how to make good games, it will work to make the best games.

turok2.jpg (10306 bytes)The price of becoming a founding developer was to make a long-term commitment to let g.o.d. publish EoR’s games. This commitment from all of the founding developers is what gives g.o.d. its strength, and why g.o.d. is especially appealing from an investor’s standpoint. That’s a huge commitment, though, and I never would have made it for an ordinary publishing deal. I think it will prove to be a great decision. In many ways, it already has.

q.gif (936 bytes) Have the other g.o.d. developers been helpful in starting up your own company?

a.gif (923 bytes) Like you said earlier, what do I know about running a company? I’m a programmer. The answer is all these guys know about running companies. Right out of the chute, EoR has benefited from all the experience of Mike Wilson, Harry Miller, Brett Combs, and many others. The feeling of community is wonderful, and why not? We’re going to make each other rich.

q.gif (936 bytes)   Who is going to work at Edge of Reality? There is a severe shortage of talented individuals in the game industry, so what makes you think you can put together a solid team of artists, programmers, etc.?

a.gif (923 bytes) I’m afraid that I can’t discuss this yet. The formation of EoR is still in progress. I can say that there are some big names from big projects from throughout the industry. Also, we’re still looking for people who fit the profile I talked about ealier. There will be some job postings soon at the g.o.d. web site (http://www.godgames.com/).
