So, for the past four years Yeo has worked on C&C; about half of that time has been devoted to fleshing out the design for Tiberian Sun. Sure, it seems like a long time to spend designing a game, but Yeo is to the point when describing his passion for the series, bluntly stating, "Tiberian Sun is my life." Growing up with parents that fully supported his gaming interests – although they never thought he could make money designing games – Yeo went to college for a few years to study Psychology, but eventually found out that his real passion was gaming. "Designing games is just about the only thing I know how to do really well," he says. "I used to work at a deli for a little bit and I tried, albeit unsuccessfully, to make it as a musician, but designing games is where my heart is. I’m just amazed they pay me to do it."

Yet for Yeo, it’s about much more than an automated paycheck deposited to his bank account bi-weekly. He lives and breathes Tiberian Sun, night and day, waking up at 7:30 each morning and coming into the office for a full day of helping sculpt the design into a reality for its quickly approaching fall release. As for his home life, Yeo is quick to point out that he does have company – a cat. "But I got her because cats are supposed to be independent. I’m so busy these days she gets pissed off as is." Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Yeo plays with a mouse all day at the office…

Against the Grain
At the Las Vegas offices of Westwood Studios, Yeo and his team of developers are hard at work to up the ante on the real time strategy genre, a type of game that Sperry and his crew pioneered with Dune 2. Now, real time strategy is arguably one of the two hottest game genres – the other

being 3D action games – and everyone is wondering if Tiberian Sun is going to take strategy gaming to the next level, or merely be a re-hash of Command and Conquer or Red Alert. When Yeo looks at the current glut of RTS games in the marketplace, he thinks that Westwood is going against the grain with Tiberian Sun. "Everyone wants to add tons of features to their games to make them stand out. What these people are doing is taking the genre full circle back to why people stopped playing strategy games in the first place – they were too complicated and too hard to get into. The accessibility just wasn’t there. So, we are resisting the trend of adding a lot of superfluous features, but at the same time creating a new world to play in and with."
