Yes, the Bonus Round is back on GT as well for 2011. In this first episode I discuss Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo’s plans for 2011 with Michael Pachter, Garnett Lee and Michael McWhertor. Part 1 is all about the Nintendo 3DS and the possibility of a Wii 2. Later this month we will get into Sony’s NGP, Microsoft’s Kinect, and the biggest third party games of the year.

This is one GTTV episode you don’t want to miss! Last week I visited Sony Santa Monica for a first look at GOD OF WAR 3, which is coming out on March 16 for the PS3. You’ve seen the demo and the trailer, but now we’re showing off tons of the final game. Wait until you see the sense of scale (like the Cronos battle) and the amazing in-game action. When you watch this episode remember that nothing is pre-rendered CGI, it’s all in-game footage. I’ve been lucky enough to play GOW3 and I must say it’s the best God of War yet.

By now you’ve probably seen the news about OnLive, the new “cloud game computer” that streams a game to your TV/PC in real time from a server. (It’s basically the PS3 “Remote Play” technology done on a grand HD scale). The technology is impressive over a good broadband connection for the PC, Mac, or via a “microconsole” that hooks up to a TV.

But could OnLive work on a gaming console? That’s a question I posed last week to Steve Perlman, the founder. His answer? Yes, OnLive could work on PS3 and Xbox 360 with no additional hardware required. You’d just have to download a small client on Xbox Live, and then “stream” games to your 360 much like Netflix streams movies.

Since Perlman has a previous relationship to Microsoft (he sold WebTV to them), I asked if he’d approached Xbox with the idea. Nope, he said. OnLive hasn’t spoken to Microsoft or Sony. In fact he expects execs at both companies to be shocked by the announcement.

While OnLive certainly doesn’t need the power of the PS3 or 360, adding this as a “service” on top of an existing console platform might be the gateway OnLive needs to reach a wider audience. (Nothing would prevent them from releasing their “microconsole” as well, which is expected to be quite inexpensive). Partnering with a console would also help OnLive with one of its biggest challenges: Marketing and distribution.

Of course the bigger question is whether Microsoft or Sony would ever allow such a service on their respective platforms — or see it as a huge threat. If OnLive works on the Xbox 360 or PS3, it would, in effect, make a “PS4″ or “Xbox 1080″ pointless. But as the old saying goes, keep your friends close and your enemies closer? If Xbox was to buy the 100-patent-strong technology, it could make “cloud computing” only possible on the 360 or PC. Or even release a dirt-cheap Xbox “Microconsole.”

Part of me wonders if we will ever see “OnLive” hit the market in its current form, or if we’re witnessing the birth of the $49 Xbox and we just don’t know it.

Ever since E3 2005, gamers have been patiently awaiting the release of PlayStation 3 exclusive Killzone 2. Now it’s out and has received incredibly positive reviews from critics (amassing a 91 on Metacritic). But how is it selling compared to say, Halo 3? And more importantly, is it giving PS3 hardware sales a much needed boost?

I was curious, so I reach out to some retail managers around the country for a highly unscientific poll. The general consensus is that the game is doing well at retail, but isn’t necessarily moving PS3s — at least not yet.

Here’s what I heard:

“Killzone 2 did very well. Probably not Halo 3 well, but one of the best selling PS3 games I have seen.”

“Without checking I bet I sold less than 2 dozen. Only had a handful of pre-orders, Metal Gear 4 sold 50 copies on pre-order, 2 dozen day one, and 2 people bought PS3s just for the game.”

“Killzone sold ALOT. Normal earnings for the past few days saw an increase of 3-5 thousand.”

“10 pick ups @ midnight in AZ, needs a little more marketing push from Sony.”

“We sold through 90 percent of our reserves in the first 48 hours.”

The real tale of the tape, of course, will come in March when we see the February NPD data.

This week’s GameTrailers TV is now live. We headed up to Sucker Punch in Seattle for a look at Infamous, a PS3 exclusive due out later this Spring. Also look for exclusive trailers on Metal Gear Solid Touch (for iPhone), Eat Lead, Singularity (from Raven Software), and an early look at new costumes set to debut in Street Fighter IV.

Today we’re excited to announce that GameTrailers TV is now available on the PlayStation Network Video Store. That’s right: You’ll be able to download episodes of the show every week. You can watch a trailer announcing this groundbreaking deal right here:

This announcement is appropriate because next week’s GTTV is all about Infamous, the exclusive PS3 open world game. Just yesterday I shot the show in Seattle with Sucker Punch, and we’ll be showing you LOTS of new exclusive content. You’ll meet the first boss, see the fight against her, and see a new trailer, cutscenes and other content.
