God of War 3 GTTV: Don’t Miss It!

This is one GTTV episode you don’t want to miss! Last week I visited Sony Santa Monica for a first look at GOD OF WAR 3, which is coming out on March 16 for the PS3. You’ve seen the demo and the trailer, but now we’re showing off tons of the final game. Wait until you see the sense of scale (like the Cronos battle) and the amazing in-game action. When you watch this episode remember that nothing is pre-rendered CGI, it’s all in-game footage. I’ve been lucky enough to play GOW3 and I must say it’s the best God of War yet.

GTTV New Season Now Airing!

Make sure to tune into the season premiere of GAMETRAILERS TV this Thursday, January 21 on Spike! The all-new season kicks off with the first look at the single-player campaign of BATTLEFIELD BAD COMPANY 2 from EA. While the multiplayer has been widely shown (and praised), we’ll show you the first single-player trailer and a ton of gameplay from two of the missions. Also, we’re introducing a new segment next week starring industry analyst Michael Pachter.

The 2009 VGAs featured more than a dozen world premieres and even surprise announcements, like the sequel to BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM. Watch GTTV from Bioware Featuring Mass Effect 2

Want the latest news on Bioware? You can now watch this week’s episode of GTTV, which we filmed last week up at Bioware in Edmonton, Canada. We have brand new footage of Dragon Age: Origins, and the first information on Mass Effect 2 from project director Casey Hudson. When it comes to Mass Effect 2, watch the segment very carefully as Bioware drops a lot of hints in the footage you see. Is that the Illusive Man in some of the concept art? What about the Mako vehicle — does it now hover? And Casey drops a pretty big hint about the storyline when he says there’s a good chance you play Mass Effect 2 from multiple perspectives. (Yes, that brings back memories of Metal Gear Solid 2 and Halo 2, or even Knights of the Old Republic).

I’m really excited to learn more about ME2. All the speculation about the storyline shows that the fiction is very deep and compelling, and I have no doubt there are more surprises yet to be revealed. On Monday we will be posting an extended cut of my interview with Casey on GameTrailers so you can see what didn’t make the half-hour show.

This episode also contains a number of world exclusive trailers such as RATCHET & CLANK: A CRACK IN TIME, BATTLEFIELD BAD COMPANY 2, GI JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA, the opening cinematic from TERMINATOR SALVATION, and news that you can download the interactive Killzone 2 commercial this Thursday for free on PSN.

In this first part of our conversation we discuss the state of the console war, get into downloadable content, and even discuss how fans impact game designers via Twitter. This is a great 4 part discussion with three smart guys in the business. Our discussion about DLC is especially interesting with some real fresh thinking put forward by our panelists.

Champions of Gaming on Spike

Can Steve, a 52-year-old gamer from Australia take down Tiger Woods at his own game? That’s one of the questions we answer when Spike broadcasts the Gillette/EA SPORTS CHAMPIONS OF GAMING Finals on Wednesday, February 18. The show features sports legends such as Woods, Derek Jeter, Reggie Bush, Denny Hamlin, and Orlando Magic All-Star Jameer Nelson. That “pro team” has a daunting challenge ahead of them when they face off against the 5 best gamers in Madden, NBA Live, FIFA, NASCAR, and of course Tiger Woods.

CHAMPIONS OF GAMING is yet another video game special that we’re airing on Spike, and I’ll be curious to hear your thoughts. I’ve never been a big believer that “competitive gaming” will work on television, but this is the first idea that I thought could potentially translate to mainstream TV. Why? The focus of the show is about the drama that developers when pro gamers have to face off against their sports heroes. It’s amazing to see pro athletes – who normally have to answer to no one – go up against players who are geniuses at the video game version of sports these athletes dominate in real life. And some of these players are cocky about their skills. Our Madden NFL Champion is so confident he can beat Reggie Bush that he picks the worst team in the history of the NFL, the Detroit Lions, during the tournament. And then he says he’s going to beat Reggie by at least a touchdown!

So while this show may feel like it’s about “competitive gaming,” It boils down to a really interesting social experiment between gamers and celebrity athletes. Let me know what you think of the show when it airs, Wednesday at 11:30 PM on Spike. This is just the first of many video game specials I’ll be creating with Spike in 2009.

This announcement is appropriate because next week’s GTTV is all about Infamous, the exclusive PS3 open world game. Just yesterday I shot the show in Seattle with Sucker Punch, and we’ll be showing you LOTS of new exclusive content.
